ALDI OLDHAM - LEES ROAD

At Oldham Foodbank we try do more than just provide food for people coming to us. We find out if there is any other help or services there is a need for, we have computers for accessing online services and job searches. We are members of the Oldham Food Network and are able to share fresh / excess short life products to make sure we help feed bellies not bins! We also work with other organisations to help new tenants, We run Eat Well Spend Less courses to teach people basic cookery skills. Working with local charities Keyring and Christians Against Poverty, we are part of the Ancora Project which has been funded by the National Lottery for five years helping people through crisis Most of the basic foods we use are donated by the general public but we also welcome donations from businesses eg. stock over runs.

Just as farmers left part of their harvest for the poor. We recover excess food from supermarkets, restaurants, and events. Surplus produce, near-expiry food, or unsold items can be “gleaned” and redirected instead of being discarded. Our food pantries in Stalybridge and Hyde act as “fields” for the distribution of gleaned food. We make this available to those experiencing food insecurity, free of charge. This is added to our shelves directly onto the street as soon as we receive it. 24 hours a day/7 days a week/365 days a year. This ensures that resources are shared immediately within the community, reflecting the principle of caring for the vulnerable. Volunteers In the same way that individuals in biblical times would gather the gleanings, our incredible team of volunteers assist with food collections, sorting, and distribution. This promotes a sense of shared responsibility and community involvement.

Our community fridge is stocked on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, we help stop food waste from our local Aldi buy collecting food and filling up our comminuty pantry, which includes a small fridge, freezer and pantry shelves, we collec items such as veggies, bread, cake and lots more food items. The pantry is looked after by the staff at Greenaces Communtiy centre and checked daily. The pantry is open to all 7 days a week, it is in our enterance way, and people can take as they wish (no cost) most people who use our fridge and pantry are visitors of the community centre, we have lots of groups here so are always busy. Here are some of our groups. - Children/young people youth clubs - Playgroup - Elderly/old people - Over 50's keep fit - Lunch Club - Socialising arts club - People with disabilities - Chilren and parent sessions Greenacres Community centre is a great place where local people can come ofr advice, help, guidnece and socialisation it's a place for the community and local residents to enjoy, get help, join a group, take from the community pantry and much more..
