The Rough Sleeping Pathway in Portsmouth is a way that The Society of St James (SSJ) and Portsmouth City Council helps people who are homeless, rough sleeping, or at risk of homelessness. It has two temporary hostels that give different kinds of tailored support to over 80 people. SSJ believes that everyone has a fundamental human right to a safe home and works to end homelessness. The hostels are set up in different buildings to provide support that meets the different needs and preferences of the people staying there. The goal of these temporary homes is to help people gain life skills and access services so they can prepare for independence and move on to more permanent home . SSJ understands that the system for housing people can be "broken" so we walk beside people to navigate it. Providing this kind of support shows a moral responsibility to ensure everyone has a safe and secure place to live. The Rough Sleeping Pathway's size, helping over 80 people, shows a significant effort to tackle homelessness in Portsmouth.

UKHarvest is a leading environmental and social impact charity dedicated to preventing food waste and food insecurity. By enriching and educating our communities we help nurture those most food insecure, to live well, age well and to help combat social isolation. From our food rescue operation to our education programmes, to our award winning Nourish Hub, every initiative we offer brings people together for the most meaningful impact. We collect perishable food from places like supermarkets, hotels, wholesalers, farmers, stadiums, catering companies, shopping centres, cafes and more, delivering it for free to charities and individuals throughout the UK. We use the food as a medium to engage communities and teach people to reduce household food waste so everyone can join our mission!

We are seeking to build a community in North End Portsmouth, that is supportive and welcoming. - People can join our membership and for a £4 weekly fee choose approx £20 worth of food. - Members are provided with dignity and personal responsibility, as they are able to choose their own food - We will have fresh, frozen and ambient food to choose from - and it changes each week. - All food will be displayed rather than stored, so they can see everything there is. - Anyone in the PO2 and PO3 postcodes can join - that is the only criteria. - We will build relationships between members and volunteers, and be able to help in times of need - whether that be ourselves or signposting to professionals who are trained to help! In the future we are hoping to extend links to local allotments, cooking classes , support groups and more - as the needs arise.
