The principle activity is the collection by public and private donation of non-perishable food and monetary donations. The donations are distributed to individuals or families that have an identified emergency need in the form of food parcels sufficient for a period of three to five days and/or energy credit payments. We use the model created by The Trussell Trust.

Newmarket Open Door is a local charity supporting young people aged 18–24 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We provide safe, supported accommodation and practical help that gives young adults the stability and guidance they need to rebuild their lives and move forward with confidence. Based in Newmarket, Suffolk, we operate a 19-bed supported housing project where residents receive tailored support in a structured, trauma-informed environment. Many of the young people who come to us have faced extreme difficulties, from family breakdown and care experience to rough sleeping, exploitation, and poverty. When they arrive, they are often anxious, isolated, and unsure of what comes next. We offer much more than a place to stay. Each resident works with a dedicated support worker to build the skills and confidence they need to move toward independence. This includes help with budgeting, cooking, tenancy training, education or job access, and emotional wellbeing. Our aim is to break the cycle of homelessness by giving young people the tools, structure, and encouragement to build a better future. In addition to our accommodation service, we also run a community foodbank and pop-up shop, supporting individuals and families facing hardship in the wider area. These services provide access to food, clothing, and essential household items, a vital lifeline for many in our community. We also operate a charity superstore, which generates income to sustain our services and offers volunteering opportunities for both residents and local people. It’s a welcoming space that promotes skill-building, confidence, and community connection. What We Need: To continue this work, we rely on the generosity of supporters, partners, and volunteers.
