Community development activities including community cafe, we take part in the holiday hunger campaign feeding low income families who are entitled to free school meals during term time, there is currently no such provision during holidays. We also make packages up for families in the local area who have no access to food banks, referrals are not necessary as we feel this is a more relaxed approach for the families. The community cafe has people from ages ranging from newborn to 90 years of age attending, on a monthly basis we hold a community museum for the old and new members of the public to attend, they can share they stories of Whitley to others. This helps combat isolation in the elderly and connects the elderly and young together..At Whitley community development association we believe that we can help empower the community to have a voice and go out and do rather than it being done for us. The cafe is a a place to meet, a place to air concerns, a place to help others, a place to do what the community wants us to do. We have programs running that meet our communities needs. Wcda do not charge for any of their services, we do ask where possible for a small donation to help us carry on the work that we do. Our food surplus project is still growing as we continue to look for more parrtners daily to help with the growing needs of our community.WCDA work alonside a benefits agency twice a week to help those get easy access to services that they would not necessarily be able to. Wcda have recently been on BBC south today and local radio stations to talk about food poverty in our area. WCDA have also just won the Pride of Reading Awards as the charity of the year.

Sufra is a charity in North West London that prevents hunger, fights poverty and builds community. With the help of our volunteers and partners, we coordinate a network of food banks, kitchens, a community shop and café. These act as a gateway for guests to access more holistic support – including welfare advice, asylum support and our award-winning community garden. We aim to work with our guests to find solutions to their challenges together, whilst campaigning against the causes of hunger and poverty.

We're a national charity & believe in the empowering impact of book ownership. We gift books that children have grown out of, to those with few of their own, and want every child to experience the emotional pleasure and escapism of a book that they have chosen themselves. **** As many in 1 in 8 disadvantaged children owns no books of their own, whilst 1 in 4 has fewer than ten books. Lack of access to their own books has a significant impact on a child's identity as a reader and as part of their reading community, whilst by age eleven there is a 12 month language development gap between those from 'book rich' and 'book poor' homes. Our goal is simple: to find new homes for the hundreds of thousands of books that children have read and no longer need. Giving families an opportunity to recycle their books helps them to free up space at home, makes use of an idle resource and ensures that every book reaches the widest readership. **** Our book hubs are in London, Leeds and Birmingham and with the help of volunteers have grown organically over the past ten years. This school year we will gift in excess of 1 million books to children and young people throughout the UK. This has only been possible with the help of corporate volunteer support and support in kind (e.g. financial or logistical). We welcome all engagement from organisations that may wish to support us in any of the following ways.
