Bromley Mencap is a pan-disability charity supporting disabled people of all ages across Bromley, Lewisham and surrounding boroughs to live independent, connected and fulfilling lives. Founded in 1951, we are a user-led organisation with more than 900 members, most of whom are disabled people and/or carers. Our organisation operates from a number of day services across the community as well as our head office, Rutland House. Services are delivered both on-site and within the local community where needed, with an emphasis on co-production of services with our members. We support people with learning disabilities, autism, profound and multiple disabilities, physical and sensory impairments, and mental health conditions. We identify service users through self-referrals, referrals from partner agencies (such as schools, health professionals and local authorities), and outreach activities. Individual needs are assessed through initial conversations and ongoing engagement to ensure support is appropriate, accessible and responsive. Our organisation provides a range of services including advice and information, emotional and practical support, leisure activities, day services, short breaks for children and young people, an accredited training centre, and employment support. Where statutory and grant funding does not fully cover delivery costs, we offer a small number of self-funded services to ensure our services remain sustainable and accessible.
