One of our church mission is to look after our community and environment. Caring for our community is an integral part of what we do at St John’s through providing free initiatives: - debt advice and support to people in our community - free English language classes - a community cafe to provide free hot meals - a twice monthly family cafe with free hot meals - a community larder to reduce food waste - developing a community raised beds to grow herbs and produce - a repair cafe run 3-4 times a year - a community forest where we planted about 700 trees to help biodiversity and humans interact - litter picking group that is run twice a month to reduce the amount of litter in our local town and surrounding areas - a "Shed" to help someone do their own upcycling and repairs - infant feeding clinic for mothers to have support - PlayTime for children 3-8 years old - youth club for teenage children We are also partners with Besom a charity that supports vulnerable people; and Care in Egham that supports elderly, the sick and the disabled. Finally we are committed to move towards being a low carbon, zero waste, nature loving church. We are directing efforts to be Carbon Zero by 2030 and zero waste by 2025 and are continually seeking ways to improving our grounds to be a haven to wildlife in suburbia. Talking Tree is a Community Interest Company (CIC) established by a group of people concerned about the climate emergency and the urgent need to take positive action to reduce CO2 emissions and establish a different relationship with the Earth on which we all depend. Talking Tree CIC is working to; - protect and preserve the environment to make our locality fit for generations to come. - advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment. - promote waste reduction, re-use, reclamation, recycling, use of recycled products and the use of surplus. - promote the use of renewable energy sources. - promote sustainable development and biodiversity. - engage with all in our local community to help achieve the changes that are needed. - create safer and more accessible spaces. - promote a culture that is healthy, resilient and adaptable.

ILAYS is a non-profit organisation, set up in 2004 by the East African community in West London. Back in 2004, we saw that many of our brothers and sisters who arrived from Somalia and elsewhere were struggling to cope in the UK. Making the transition can be tough, and we recognised that migrants, refugees and asylum seekers were in danger of feeling excluded, isolated or ignored. We felt something could be done to help them. So we set up Ilays. Our mission is to help BAME communities and new arrivals in West London to reach their full potential. We want people to feel comfortable and – above all – happy in their lives here. We think it’s vital that they can overcome any barriers to social inclusion, and can think of themselves as totally equal to people who were born and raised in the UK.
