The Co-operative Food - Portishead, Port Marine

The aim of Portishead Community Fridge and Food Network is to prevent food going to waste by sharing it within our community. We have recently agreed land for a permanent site for a Fridge, freezer and larder and whilst waiting for planning permisssion to be granted are running pop up surplus tables around the town. These allow us to explain our purpose and encourage local residents to work with us to reduce food waste.

The Nailsea Community Group was set up in March 2020 in response to the Covid crisis. Since then the group has gone from strength to strength and has evolved from a Covid-response team to a real Community Group that highlights what an amazing community we have in Nailsea. Community Larder - this has been established to stop food from going to waste and is supported by local shops, both independently and through the charities FareShare, Neighbourly, and FoodShare. It has an average of 55 visits a day and is open to all residents and has no impact on our Foodbank stock. #feedbelliesnotbins Community Food Club - this is open to those who receive benefits. Membership costs £1 per household and entitles members to a weekly bag of store-cupboard items worth over £10 for £3.50. End Holiday Hunger - When schools are not running we are endeavouring to provide food for every child in Nailsea who receives Free School Meals in term time. Nailsea Active - this initiative continues to inspire people to stay mentally and physically active and to make the most of our amazing local facilities. We are very proud to live in Nailsea and would not be able to provide the above without every volunteer along with every resident, business, and organisation that has helped us along the way. We run a weekly Food Surplus Table in Pill village every Saturday 10-11. AND our Community Fridge is open 6 days a week, Mon to Sat. All based at Pill Resource Centre 4 Baltic Place, Pill, BS20 0EJ. We've shared more than 50 tonnes of food since we started in June 2021. In averages that's 1 tonne per month and 550 customers. All free to any local residents. We're also partnering with Pill Food Hub to support their pop up, affordable food market on Friday afternoons and their provision of free crisis food bags. We're looking for regular food donations for Mondays as it's a 'lean day' for us. We can also take one off donations of surplus dry (ambient) foods, dairy, fruit and vegetables. We'd be very grateful for any financial donations towards the running costs for the Fridge and Food Table. We've got 15, food hygiene trained, volunteers helping us and we're happy to pick up donations from Bristol, Portishead, Shirehampton and neighbouring areas (postcodes BS20, BS11) We'll collect from food shops, farms, small holdings and allotments.
