34th Weston super Mare (The Firs) Scout Group
Weston-super-Mare, UK
We are a Scout Group specifically for children with complex and additional needs. We are one of a few across the Country that provide Scouting for young people who can't take part in a mainstream Scout Group. We have a high adult to youngster ratio, with the majority of children needing 1:1 support. We are unable to take part in the standard fundraising activities as they are not suitable for the youngsters. Many of the parents say that the things we offer at Scouts are not available anywhere else. Indeed, some of the young people we have helped have gone on to live in supported housing, using skills they have learnt with us. We also take the young people on residential activities, the longest being for 3 nights. We offer indoor and outdoor camps and have even had the Scouts sleeping out in shelters they have made themselves for their Survival badge. Donations and grants allow us to put on a wide ranging programme that would otherwise be unobtainable.
