The Co-operative Food - Sandown, Avenue Road (PFS)

Purchase and provide food for people in poverty and crisis at this current time. This is achieved by placing a stand at our chairty shop/cafe in Lake for people to collect for free. We also offer a home delivery of an emergency box of fresh fruit and veg plus home cooked meals and a supply of packet and tinned products as a back up. Due to the local economy being reliant on tourism lots of people have lost their jobs in hotels and guest houses therefore finances are stretched especially for families. We aim to be able to continue as long as possible into the future providing we can get funding to support us. We have registered as a charity to be able to offer the best service we can. We are volunteers and take no wages. Due to panic buying and interrupted supplies of food we are trying to purchase a range of products to encourage fresh produce as much as possible. These can be quite expensive so supply is limited. With extra funding we could ensure that at least all people who are shielding or are in isolation to get a varied selection of products in their box. It's all given for free. A local hotel provides cooked soups and meals when requested provided we can source most of the ingredients, although they quite often donate due to items not being available. With extra funding we can bridge this gap thus reducing the stress for a lot of people when various foods are in short supply due to having to limit our funding. We try to work on a budget - not knowing how long this crisis is going to last we want to continue providing food long term.

We are a not for profit organisation specialising in Suicide Prevention, Intervention, Training & Education. Our aim is to seek to save lives across the Isle of Wight, this is done by using proven prevention training and / or using proven suicide (crisis) intervention to reach out, offering hope to anyone who is suicidal be that coastal or inland. We also know that there is a lot of stigma and taboo attached to suicide, our aim is also to break this down and for people to talk openly about it and the way they are feeling . We break down the stigma and taboo about suicide in a number of ways, the most powerful way is our prevention & training courses delivered across the Island to many walks of life. WE ARE AN INDEPENDENT ORGANISATION BASED ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT. WE HAVE A FRONT LINE TEAM TRAINED IN SUICIDE (CRISIS) INTERVENTION WHO ARE AVAILABLE 365 DAYS A YEAR, 24 HOURS A DAY. When a person feels that they want to end their life from suicide and when time is the key to survival our front line team will immediately act to intervene. This could be a person’s home address or other locations across the Island and secondly by continuing to support those in need. Our front line personnel are trained in a number of ways including in-house training and have further training in de-escalation techniques and other relevant skills. Once safely through the crisis our follow up teams will continue to support those involved and will provide signposting and advice. Our front line team members are made up from all walks of life who share not only the values of SPIIOW but the common interest in wanting to help others in their time of need. The training we undertake is to a high standard and our members need to be able to give at least 1 day a week to ensure that they meet the requirements to become operational.
