Hammersley Homes - Support for life for adults with enduring mental illness.

Lymington, UK

Who We Are Hammersley Homes is a registered charity founded in 2018 by Louise Hallett, inspired by her personal experience supporting a loved one with schizophrenia. We exist to support adults with enduring mental illnesses who struggle to live independently. Our mission is to relieve loneliness, improve wellbeing, and provide peace of mind to families. We operate across Hampshire and the New Forest, where statutory services are stretched, and ongoing one-to-one support is limited. Since 2021 we have been growing and developing our Outreach services while we work towards our goal of establishing supported living facilities for this vulnerable group. What We Do Our core service is the Outreach Programme, which provides personalised one-to-one support to people living with serious mental illness in the community. Support is offered either in person or remotely and tailored to each individual's needs. We help with: • Managing daily tasks (e.g. post, budgeting, benefits) • Improving digital access • Social connection and engagement • Nutrition and cooking • Mental and emotional wellbeing • Encouraging hobbies, interests, and community participation • Simply being a friend and consistent presence • Facilitate peer support through group activities and events Our ultimate vision is to provide fully supported homes for life, but our focus for 2025 is on sustaining and expanding our Outreach service. We currently have 6 staff working on the programme: • Outreach Programme Manager • Outreach Programme Assistant • 4 x Outreach Home Visitors Why We Do It People living with enduring mental illness often: • Lose employment, friends, and family support • Experience isolation, loneliness, and stigma • Struggle without long-term support • Experience mental health crisis that can lead to hospitalisation Our Outreach Programme: • Reduces crisis events and the need for hospitalisation or police intervention • Enhances wellbeing, independence, and confidence • Fills a critical gap in local mental health support We are the only charity in our region offering this kind of long-term, person-centred support.
