St Mary's serves one of the poorest wards in Southampton - over 50% of our children are entitled to Free School Meals and nearly three-quarters attract the pupil premium funding (a marker of poverty). Our work with neighbourly will support us to open a foodbank, a community resource to serve our parents and children so that they may take what they need - when they need it. We hope that local supermarkets will be generous in supporting us with food that would otherwise be wasted, which will be utilised to support our most vulnerable families first - through boxes and food hampers. With the rest reaching our school community at the end of the day - posted on our Facebook page and through our school website. Hungry children cannot learn, retain and understand information as well as their peers.

The Velmore Community Centre and Belmont Hall are at the heart of the Velmore Community, providing a much loved and needed venue for local residents and small business owners. Our regular programme includes activities for young families, health and wellbeing sessions, education, information and support. We also play a large part in tackling social isolation. In an area of poor economic activity, the services we provide are often low or even no cost to ensure those most in need can remain active in our community. Year on year we achieve a high level of service delivery on a relatively low income, working hard to achieve value for money in all that we do. Volunteer time, grants and donations play a large part in helping us to achieve our aims.

Cash For Kids is well known for our Mission Christmas appeal - 17,604 children and teenagers opened a present last Christmas, thanks to our kind supporters. We have an established network of local schools, charities and social workers who know the children in our area that need the most help - these are young carers, families escaping abuse and domestic violence, children living with an illness or disability and those who have nowhere else to turn to for help. If you donate a present instore or donate money to buy a present, we will ensure that a child near you will open this on Christmas morning. We want everyone who donates to feel great on Christmas morning too as you are making a difference to a child who would have gone without. - How we help children near you - Wave 105 Cash for Kids is a local grant-giving charity and we give local grants to local children.
