SeeSaw - grief support for children and young people in Oxfordshire

Oxford, UK

Oxfordshire children’s charity SeeSaw has been called “The great little charity with the big heart”. SeeSaw supports children and young people who need extra support coming to terms with the death of a mum, dad, sister or brother. National statistics indicate that by the age of 16, around 1 in 20 young people will have experienced the death of one or both of their parents. Without specialist support at this critical time, many of these young people can face emotional problems in later life. SeeSaw’s aim is to give bereaved children in difficulty the support they need, so that they can move forward and face the future with hope. SeeSaw provides a comprehensive service to the whole of Oxfordshire, offering: • Rapid response to families’ requests for advice and support; • Telephone advice for parents, carers and professionals; • Dedicated, tailored one-to-one grief support to children where it is required; • Family activity days; group work for children and adolescents; • Pre-bereavement support for families when it is known that a parent is dying; • Training for professionals such as teachers and nurses; • A wide range of resources and literature for children and their families and any member of the community in need of information about grief support for children. As a small charity, SeeSaw relies on support and donations from the local community, the corporate sector and charitable bodies to keep its vital service going.
