Dogs For Autism - Enriching Lives, Expanding Horizons
Alton, UK
“Today, Poppy our amazing dog, took my daughter out to play. This might not sound like a big thing until you understand that she didn’t go outside for nearly 4 years due to her anxieties. Having Poppy has made it possible to go outside, to play, to laugh, to feel safe and protected from the world around her. Poppy has made living a normal life possible.” Dogs for Autism is the only charity to train and provide assistance dogs free of charge to autistic people of any age, anywhere in the UK. We support this community, not only through the provision of our dogs but through the specialist care we provide to the autistic recipients and their families. Our dogs transform lives, and are trained to perform specific tasks to support their autistic partner, helping them to access their community and to make positive relationships, increasing independence and reducing their isolation. For children, our dogs and the wrap around support we offer can mean the difference between being unable to leave the house and being able to attend school, make friends and get an education. For adults, it can mean the chance to gain employment, access the outside world and to play an active, inclusive role in their community.
