Whitchurch Silk Mill is the UK’s oldest working silk mill; a gem of industrial heritage located on the River Test in quintessential rural Hampshire. For more than 200 years the Mill has been drawing power from the gin-clear waters of the river via its waterwheel, and is still weaving beautiful silk using 19th-century machinery. Learn about the traditions of silk weaving and how the delicate thread is made into fabulous cloth. Get an interactive hands-on weaving experience and enjoy the family friendly displays, events and activities. The riverside cafe and shop selling a range of our own silk products and giftware are open to all and offer a wonderful opportunity to relax in this lovely setting. Whether you're machine-mad, an admirer of silk fabrics, a child learning about the Victorians, or just looking for a delightful day out in Hampshire, Whitchurch Silk Mill has something for you: the original mill wheel and Victorian machinery; fabulous fabrics on the looms; a shop to indulge in silk products from the Mill, and much more; peaceful setting by the River Test, with tearoom for lunch and refreshments.
