The holiday home we will be a brand new static caravan, with two bedrooms and a roomy pull out bed in the lounge area - sleeping up to 6. We have chosen a holiday park in the New Forest for our first holiday home. It is a 5* park with swimming pools, spa, restaurants and we are looking at plots with easy access to the main facilities. The holiday home will be available to anyone who is undergoing treatment for any type of cancer and their friends/family (up to a max of 6 people). We are also looking at the possibility of extending this to patients in remission and families that have been bereaved by cancer. There will be a short application process. The holiday home will be owned by the charity as a CIO, Charitable Incorporated Organisation. We have opted for a brand new two bed caravan with a pull out sofa bed in the lounge to ensure that there is enough space for a family of up to 6 to enjoy a holiday. The sofa bed also means that the family can still spend quality time together if one of the members is poorly. This is important to us as mum often talked about how isolated she felt whilst going through chemo, ill and confined to her bed. We have gone for one of the more premium caravans because having two bathrooms was again a very important element. Many of you will know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer and undergone chemotherapy or radiotherapy, both of which can make a person extremely unwell. It is important to us that any of our beneficiaries who are ill have the privacy they need whilst using our facilities. Quality – well this speaks for itself really, we don’t want to offer up shoddy goods. We want to provide a clean and welcoming environment to ensure that families who come and stay in our home have the best time possible. The park we have chosen, Shorefield, is top notch! The facilities are amazing, they have swimming pools, a spa and a gym. Multiple bars and restaurant areas, a play park, evening entertainment and even a takeaway onsite for when you don’t feel like, or aren’t up to going out or cooking! Again with the actual caravan, quality is important, it will be fully furnished and pitched close enough to the site facilities as to make them fully accessible to anyone of ill health. We have a minimum target amount at the moment of £52,000 - this is for the purchase of a brand new 2 bedroom, 6 berth, static caravan. This total also covers the maintenance of the caravan for the first year - site fees, council tax, insurances etc. After this we will need to raise £6,000+ each year in order to maintain and run the holiday home. We currently have £6800 raised toward the initial goal of £52000.
