History of Parkside Parkside is a registered charity based in Aldershot and Farnborough that provides support services for some 130 children and adults with learning disabilities living in the local area, covering both Hampshire and Surrey. It was founded in 1963 by a group of parents who realised that the support for families who had children with special needs was limited. The premises next to the park on Guildford Road were built and the first playgroup was started (affectionately known as the Peter Pan Club). Since then, Parkside has strived to fulfil the need for more services and has gone from strength to strength. Parkside’s aim as a charity is to give both children and adults the opportunity to develop their individual skills and take part in activities within the local community. Needs can vary from requiring support to socialise with friends, to participating in leisure activities, meeting new people, developing life skills, work experience opportunities and providing respite for other family members. By reaching out into the community, Parkside aims to develop and strengthen its links with local people and organisations, creating opportunities for everyone to be involved and included.

We are the heart of the Mytchett Community. At the centre, we have activities for everyone in the community, from the ages of 4 months to elderly people. Our activities include Jelly Beans, tennis, dance, pilates and so much more. We are always looking for new activities and classes to run and offer to the people who use our centre, and thrive to be as inclusive as possible. In addition to our regular classes and activities, we run three large events during the year. These are enjoyed by the whole community. Open Door has been running for 2.5yrs and is completely run by volunteers form different churches in Hampshire and Surrey . We serve between 20 and 29 Homeless people Homemade Soup, Bacon Butties and a packed tea every Sunday whilst providing them with a warm, safe place to just come and be. Over the years we have been able to build relationships and give extra help to those who want it including providing clean clothes and toiletries. We offer a non-judgemental listening ear to all who come through the doors: Open Door Volunteers serve from 1pm - 4:30pm Open Door runs Every Sunday from 2pm -4pm Community Breakfast has now been running for the same amount of time as Open Door. We wanted a way to encourage individuals in the neighbourhood to make connections with each other and what better way to do this than over a full English Breakfast on the first Saturday of every month., We want to try to encourage cohesion In the community that God has called us to serve and one way is by celebrating the things we have in common. People of all ages and backgrounds attend and some end up wanting to help and get involved. We are a Church and we believe we are called to serve the community, to show and to share the love of Christ in practical ways.; with this in mind, all the outreach work we run has Christian values at the heart of them.
