At Dream Earth Project, our mission is to create a sustainable and equitable food system that prioritizes the reduction of food waste and the redistribution of surplus food to those in need. We strive to reduce the environmental impact of food waste by implementing composting and other sustainable solutions that return nutrients to the earth and promote healthy soil. Through community engagement and education, we aim to empower individuals to take action towards reducing food waste and building a more sustainable future. We recognize the interconnectedness of environmental and social issues and seek to promote holistic solutions that improve both the health of our planet and the wellbeing of our communities. At Dream Earth Project, we believe that every individual has a role to play in creating a more sustainable future, and we are committed to working together towards that vision. The Dream Earth Project (DEP) focuses on sustainable solutions for food surplus generated by local businesses in North and Northwest London and surrounding areas. The project has both environmental and social aspects, with the aim of preventing food waste and channeling food surplus to communities in need. DEP also aims to educate the wider public, including schools and businesses, about the issue of food waste. In addition to supporting communities, DEP aims to develop processes that help local authorities and supermarkets divert food waste from landfills to more environmentally friendly methods such as composting and producing substrates to grow mushrooms. The project intends to research and utilize alternative food waste solutions and create training materials for individuals and businesses to implement on a larger scale. DEP also plans to create a community garden in the future to teach people of all ages about the world of plants and how gardening can benefit mental wellbeing and strengthen people's commitment to the environmental cause. Currently, DEP provides food for a stall in Stanmore and a warehouse in Watford Wolsey Business Park, free open to everyone. The project also delivers food to those with limited means of transport and mobility problems. With the help of 60 dedicated volunteers DEP works directly with communities to support local schools, foodbanks, churches, mosques, and other causes. Food Rescue Group, Uxbridge takes a practical, community-led approach to tackling food waste and promoting sustainable living across the town. As communities face growing challenges from climate change, dwindling resources, and ecological disruption, this initiative is both urgent and essential. A core focus of our work is addressing food waste, a major issue that leads to the unnecessary loss of valuable resources and contributes significantly to methane emissions from landfill. Tackling this challenge is both an environmental necessity and a moral responsibility, as redistributing surplus food can provide vital support to local families and individuals. We work closely with local producers and retailers to ensure surplus food is put to good use rather than wasted. These partnerships help businesses reduce disposal costs while delivering measurable environmental benefits for the wider community. The initiative is powered by dedicated local volunteers, including community members and university students, who collect and redistribute surplus food shortly after it becomes available. This rapid turnaround helps maintain freshness, removes the need for storage, and supports the highest standards of food safety and quality. Every item is carefully inspected, and any unsuitable food is disposed of responsibly to minimise environmental impact. Pickup and distribution in Uxbridge are coordinated by Richard Purpura and Norberto Natividad, who work closely with the volunteer network to ensure collections run smoothly and deliveries reach those who need them most. Their hands-on leadership keeps operations efficient, responsive, and firmly community-focused. Coordination is managed through a dedicated WhatsApp group, providing real-time updates on collection schedules, locations, and available quantities. This efficient communication enables quick responses and effective day-to-day operations. By launching this initiative in Uxbridge, the Food Rescue Group is diverting significant quantities of food from landfill, reducing methane emissions, conserving valuable resources, and strengthening community connections. As the group continues to refine its approach and expand local engagement, it is making meaningful progress towards a more sustainable and inclusive future. We opened Northolt Food Hun on 2nd December 2022 at Viking Community Centre in Northolt. We currently have 100 families we support and also have Salvation Army in Greenford to support (30) families. We are a non profitable charity and solely rely on donations from local supermarkets etc. we do have lions club Wembley supporting us over the last few weeks. We would very much like support from Neighbourly to support our food hub too. We have families who are vegetarian, halal and non halal. We would accept meat, bakery, tinned food, fruit and vegetables etc. we would like to thank you in advance considering to support our food hub. Miss Ragini Patel BEM Ps I have been honoured by the queen earlier last year for my continued support in the communities. We receive support of surplus food from Farm Foods in Yiewsley, Sainsbury’s local in Northolt and Wenzels both in Greenford and Northolt. We support organisations such as Jalaram Mandir with bakery items, church in Wembley every Saturday with Wenzels bakery and we support Salvation Army in Greenford - Kath, and a hotel locally where it has asylum seekers who are so grateful for all surplus food - halal only. We are extending our supporting to surrounding areas/boroughs too. We would like to request donations from any supermarkets, nandos, or restaurants that have any surplus food so that we are able to support more charities, families etc.
