Devon and Cornwall Food Action is a Registered Charity, striving to eradicate food poverty in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall. The Charity is run entirely by a brilliant volunteer workforce and the Charity has been providing food provision to families in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall for the past 10 years struggling financially and many that are in financial poverty. During this last year, we have seen a significant rise in the number of clients that are in urgent need of our service, sadly as a result of Covid 19 Pandemic. Our aim as a Charity is to redistribute surplus food and non-food products which are collected and delivered by donors across Devon and Cornwall. The Charity has identified a number of services, community organisations and groups, and through their various means-testing schemes the products are distributed to those that have been identified as being in desperate need to feed themselves and their families. We also work closely with professionals and accept referrals from statutory agencies and our historical service provision. Our Challenges are obtaining grants for our services to enable us to help those in desperate need and financial difficulties and unable to purchase food. We were established 20 years ago "supporting and empowering families with disabled children". We offer practical advice, support and fun activities to children with a disability or impairments and their families in and around in Plymouth, South Hams, West Devon and East Cornwall. In 2018 we were approached by the Parliamentary Review as an example of best practice in our sector! and are featured in the 2019 Care Publication. Friends and Families of Special Children Ltd is based in Virginia House, which was left to the people of Plymouth by Lady Nancy Astor. The Virginia House Settlement support us with both, these premises and grants which in turn, mean that we can echo Lady Astor’s wishes for the city and open the facilities for the benefit for Plymouth people. Our charitable objects are to: * Bring about improvements in services for beneficiaries with special needs * Promote the development of the personal and social health of children with special needs * Promote a forum that promote empowerment and participation for service users in the delivery and services for children with special needs and their family and carers. * Affiliate to regional and national local and national organisations and agencies that promote the interest of children with special needs and their families/ carers * Promote equal opportunity and to oppose all forms of discrimination. We provide: * Information, advice, emotional support and advocacy for parents and carers. * Social and leisure events for the whole families as well as specific groups aimed at children, young people, or their siblings * Support all family members where they meet their peers who live in similar circumstances. * Educational workshops for parents and carers to develop knowledge and skills relevant to their child and their impairment or disability.

The Pioneer Project CIC is a community interest company based in Barne Barton, Plymouth, working alongside local children, young people and families to build emotional safety, connection and opportunity. We’re rooted in the neighbourhood our staff and volunteers are local or have lived experience of the area and we take a trauma‑informed, practical approach that meets people where they are, with dignity and warmth. We run welcoming, low‑cost and free community activities that reduce isolation and strengthen relationships. This includes our Community Café and Compassion Café, a Food Larder, Forest School sessions for children (including specialist support), community cinema, cooking sessions for parents and children, and community fundays that bring hundreds of local families together. We also support adults through community-based groups and activities that help people reconnect, build confidence and feel part of something positive. We help people who are feeling the pressure of rising costs, loneliness, bereavement, poor mental health, and the ongoing impact of trauma. Many of the families we support are juggling multiple challenges, and what often makes the biggest difference is consistent, friendly support and a place they can rely on week after week. The support we need most is surplus food and essential household items to help keep our café and food larder running, plus volunteers who can give a few hours regularly (or occasionally) to help with food sorting, café support, setting up sessions, and practical tasks. We’re also keen to hear from volunteers with skills in fundraising, marketing, admin, who can help us grow sustainably and care for our community spaces.
