Rethink Mental Illness Keward House service

we are a large mental health charity with supported housing services throughout the country. This particular service is based in Wells Somerset . we identify our clients through working with Homeless charities, probation, prisons, Somerset council homeless teams, young adult services and self referrals. we work with local hubs in wells, CAB, money advice, mental health teams, volunteering opportunities, local council, YMCA, SS, SDAS, We offer clients activities within our services, gardening and growing their own food, Art, support with cooking healthy low cost meals . We support ages 18-65 with finding and maintaining accommodation, largely in our own housing services, with a a mental health diagnosis through to manage independent accommodation. we support clients with maintaining their mental health, empowering them with their own recovery and tools to promote independence and sustain accommodation. Many of our clients are referred from being homeless and have no clothing, bedding or means to buy these items. we try and find other organizations who can help but are always grateful for any offers of items to help our clients . we help to maintain clients live and manage licences and tenancies and find other networks, volunteering opportunities, employment and benefit advice to support with independent move on. there is a standard PC charge for the clients to support with paying utility bills, bit this is minimal . 3 years ago we worked with a local pub in Wells and received an award for the work that we do within the local community . we work hard and well with the local homeless team to support clients get off the streets into housing and give hope and dignity. we work with these clients to get help with receiving benefits, roof over their heads, access to a GP and other agencies to help get them back on their feet. we work alongside other professionals, including mental health teams, GP, housing departments and charities to promote our service and what we can offer. we always are in need of bedding, house hold items, crockery, clothing, non food items such as shower gel, toothpaste, toilet rolls, shampoo etc. All donated food is shared with all clients in need and at times we will use some for the healthy eating group we do with all the clients . This is a great resource for all the clients who struggle with budgeting and cooking on a limited budget. we currently receive no food donations within our service and this is such a need to support clients with additional food when on low incomes, be able to support our clients with using the food donations into low cost health meals . giving them skills very often needed to maintain health and wellbeing .
