The Lighthouse Project
Porth, UK
We are a community group who want to enhance what we already doing making a difference practically emotionally and spiritually within our community of Tonyrefail and surrounding areas. There is a large proportion of unemployed and families living in poverty. We use all donations of food. clothing and other furniture items providing to specific families we know through health visitors, social services, GP's. schools and many other organisations to provide whatever we can to make life a little easier. We also provide free meals for those parents and children who are eligible for free school meals during school holidays. Our only income in providing our services is through the generosity of local people and organisations. We have brought this community centre back to life bringing people together, tackling isolation and loneliness. We currently support the following groups: Coffee Cups and Crayons for parents and children every Monday 10-1130 Crochet group 12 - 2pm Wed Pay what you can breakfasts from 9-11 Safe Hands for those bereaved or other types of losses 1-3pm Thurs CAB 9-1130 Free legal clinic 9-12 Veterans lunches and support Singing for the Brain for those with Alzheimer's Fri Pay what you can café We also provide free or very cheap quality clothing as well as being the focal point for any practical needs our community may have which can be seen from our Facebook page, clothing, food, hygiene products and even furniture. We have a group pf volunteers that do food collections every month from Coop and Sainsbury's that people can access for non perishable foods. Through the Neighbourly project we are able to provide surplus food on a daily basis for those in need to access every day.
