We are an established service operating in the coastal areas of North and West Norfolk, as well as some of the more isolated inland towns and villages, to help tackle food poverty. We operate as a pop-up community supermarket, with weekly locations in Walsingham, Wicken Green, alongside static shops in both Holt and Wells Next the Sea. Our key aims are to: - Provide free or heavily discounted food and household products for members (members must be local residents and will be asked to provide proof of address. Details of the numbers living in the household will be recorded to ensure fair shopping and measure the impact of the project. There will be a small one-off fee to join.) - Reduce expenditure for local residents struggling with the cost of living. - Provide a safe space for people to seek help or just see a friendly face. We will partner with wrap around services to help improve our members health and wellbeing. - Provide a place of social interaction for people struggling with isolation or loneliness. A one-off joining fee of £3.50 is charged per household. Products are not labelled with a price but by a system of dots. For example a product marked with one dot will cost 10p, a product marked with 5 dots will cost 50p. We aim to price all items at a minimum 50% cheaper than retail prices. In addition we will offer a selection of items completely free of charge, with limits to how many items per shopper depending on stock levels and membership numbers. These items will be hygiene/sanitary products and surplus food donations. These items will be displayed on a separate table to stock which is for purchase and this table is where all produce sourced via neighbourly will be distributed from.

Dereham Community Fridge has been launched to give local businesses and individuals a way to donate food that is passed its ‘best by’, but within its ‘use by’ date, that would otherwise be thrown away. Anyone who would like to use the food can come and take items from the fridge for free. There's no paperwork, appointments or referrals. Just come during our weekday opening times of 10am -1pm. Please note doors open at 9.30am to queue and get a free hot drink. The main aims of Dereham Community Fridge are twofold: to reduce food waste and to get surplus food into the hands of those who can use it.

By Managing food sustainably and reducing waste, we can help businesses and consumers save money, provide a bridge in our community for those who do not have enough to eat and conserve resources for further generations Project is to focus on • Saves money from buying less food. • Reduces methane emissions from landfills and lowers your carbon footprint. • Conserves energy and resources, preventing pollution involved in the growing, manufacturing, transporting, and selling food (not to mention hauling the food waste and then landfilling it). • Supports our community by providing donated untouched food that would have otherwise gone to waste to those who might not have a steady food supply. Thriftiness Tips Be mindful of old ingredients and leftovers you need to use up. You’ll waste less and may even find a new favorite dish. Shop in your refrigerator first! Cook or eat what you already have at home before buying more. Have produce that’s past its prime? It may still be fine for cooking. Think soups, casseroles, stir fries, sauces, baked goods, pancakes or smoothies. If safe and healthy, use the edible parts of food that you normally do not eat. For example, stale bread can be used to make croutons, beet tops can be sautéed for a delicious side dish, and vegetable scraps can be made into stock. Learn the difference between “sell-by,” “use-by,” “best-by,” and expiration dates. Are you likely to have leftovers from any of your meals? Plan an “eat the leftovers” night each week. Casseroles, stir-fries, frittatas, soups, and smoothies are great ways to use leftovers too. Search for websites that provide suggestions for using leftover ingredients.
