About us We are a group of local people, committed to reaching out to the Derby inner city community. Our volunteers come from nursing, mental health, health visiting, teaching, administration and care backgrounds. This free service is based at the Church of God 7th Day, Moore Street .Derby DE23 6SN, which is a registered charity. We are a community church, working with likeminded people, in the local area, to provide donated food in the form of soup, filled cobs, sandwiches and bread. We work in partnership with local hostels and service users attend by self referral, through word of mouth or by service staff. In addition, we try to support people, mainly though giving, offering a listening ear, acts of kindness and invitation to social events. Opening Times Mondays 2.00 - 3.00 filled cobs/sandwiches – and hot drink Fellowship and lunch - Saturdays 2-3pm The public access our services according to their perceived need We provide a small foodbank using donations supplied. Kings Kitchen is in a severely deprive area of Derby. Information about the services offered are cascaded via weekly announcements, via hostels, Derby City Council, local new letters and flyers. Individuals and groups are invited to activities and receive food donation based on need. Low-income families receive food donation – they walk in off the street Local schools are aware of what is available. Donations are received from individuals from the wider community. News is spread by word of mouth and people turn up uninvited and receive help. Emergency housing and hostels are provided with food and filled cobs. Local services forward needy individuals Attendees are redirected for e.g. housing advise and health concerns Some of our volunteers work with people in Addiction and Homeless and can easily cascade information to those in need We give out donations freely to needy people in the community King’s Kitchen is evaluated quarterly by the wider organisation On Mondays we provide filled cobs and sandwiches to needy individuals- usually around 100 units On Saturdays we provide fellowship lunch – offering a hot meal to around 70 individuals. This is served by donations received from neighbourly and funds from the local church The wider church offers a men’s group that Kings Kitchen users can access Individual drop in for light refreshment if the premises are open outside the usual opening times We follow the guidance of Derby City Council’s Environmental Department We work with a number of trained volunteers with a wide skill sets Volunteers are available to listen and empathise with visitors. We refer to other organisation eg for housing and wider health support. There are opportunities for individuals to receive spiritual support if required.
