For public benefit, the prevention or relief of food poverty of people living in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester, by operating a community grocery, providing surplus food from supermarkets to individuals and families, to relieve their needs and prevent hunger. Membership of Fare Shop is open to individuals and families in receipt of any state benefit/s. Membership costs £2 per year and entitles members to shop once per week. There is free choice of goods (basic groceries and toiletries) on open shelves and items are priced individually and are low cost. Fare Shop offers healthy and nutritious food. Generous portions of fruit and vegetables are free of charge and highly sought after by customers. On average, members spend £5.25 per shop, purchasing some 28 types of goods whose retail price is approximately £40. Fare Shop purchases some of its goods from the charitable wholesalers FareShare and In Kind Direct. In addition to these, the connections of Fare Shop to supermarkets via Neighbourly are central for its successful operation. Supermarket surplus and customer donations are a key component of Fare Shop's stock. In total, Fare Shop supplies its customers with some 30 tonnes of goods each year. The impact of the surplus food donations is immense. The recent Feeding Britain's customer survey revealed that 92% of our members worry about not having enough food to feed themselves and their families, every week. Many of our members repeatedly express their gratitude for the services of Fare Shop. "If it wasn't for Fare Shop, I wouldn't be able to eat on three days every week." "It means everything to me to be able to have fruit and vegetables which I would be unable to get otherwise."

Provision of relief of items to vulnerable and disadvantaged families. We now want to launch a community hub but need more funding, help with fridge and a space to fully launch the hub. When this is accomplished we will be able to increase our beneficiary base as well as increase our services. People will not have to wait to get appointments before accessing food. They can get come in everyday we are open to eat.

New Mills Youth and Community Project C.I.C. is a community interest company (company no.12440021) limited by guarantee, not shares. We are a not-for-profit organisation. Our aim is to benefit the community by facilitating a range of affordable and accessible support services for local individuals and families, as well as having a positive impact on the environment. We help as many people as we can in lots of different ways; our Community Pantry gives people access to affordable foods, toiletries and cleaning products, as well as redistributing surplus foods from local supermarkets which prevents waste and therefore has a positive impact on the environment. The surplus food from local supermarkets is collected by our organisation, brought back to our Community Pantry and given away for free to people so that it does not go to landfill instead. We run a Community Clothing Service and a School Uniform Service to provide people with an opportunity to access affordable clothing, shoes, bedding, towels, curtains etc and we also offer Early Essentials Equipment such as prams, cots, high chairs etc. We run a Community Book Shop selling books, dvds and cds and a Community Toy Shop where everything is sold at an affordable price to help individuals and families to save even more money, and all proceeds raised go straight back in to our project to support the work we do in the community. We provide craft activity packs for children during half-term holidays and we sponsor a local stay-and-play group to give families free access to a weekly social activity, we sponsor sewing classes and arts classes for children during half term to ensure as many local children as possible are accessing some of the best services our community offers when schools are closed. We rely on the income we generate ourselves as well as grant funding and donations from the public. No donation is ever too small or too big, we are grateful for anything!
