Surplus To Purpose (SToP) is an environmental enterprise which specialise in the interception of surplus food destined for waste. This produce may be past Best Before, suffered accidental damage or surplus to requirements. Trained personnel record, process and quality control all intercepted food, to ensure it is safe for consumption. This food is then redistributed through various activities such as; boxes for families, outside catering & events, Pay As You Feel cafes and into schools. SToP intercepts approximately 1,000 tons per year at its headquarters in Leeds - the equivalent of 2.3 million meals per year. A majority of the produce we intercept is perishable items such as fruit & vegetables, and bakery goods. However, we also intercept frozen meat & fish, chilled dairy items and non perishable items such as dry goods, drinks and confectionary. In 2022 SToP aims to become the U.K.s largest caterer of events using intercepted produce. From weddings, to conferences, birthdays and work lunches, we wish to provide environmental alternatives to mainstream providers of contract catering. Our mission is to Feed Bellies Not Bins, whilst educating people on the inhumane amounts of edible food wasted every year in the U.K. All of our spaces are inclusive, and all the food we intercept is available to all. Pantry Project LCM provides supplies of food to people in need and struggling with life. - unemployed, discharged prisoners, addicts in recovery, people experiencing benefit delays or insecure job status. Recipients are identified through the regular ministries of LCM or by referral via social workers, clergy, Leeds City Council Advice Workers and other community animateurs. Food is sourced from Neighbourly, other retail outlet surpluses & donations from churches as part a combined resource portfolio to meet increasing need . Pantry Project operates two days a week - recipients call at Drop In Session, make needs known -an appropriate parcel is made up from them according to the quantity and types of food available that day. In a typical week up to 20 people are using this service. No charge is made and clients are also encouraged to keep in touch. Christmas Kids Present Project Needy families referred by LCM volunteers, schools, social workers, clergy etc receive free Christmas presents for their children. LCM sources presents from businesses, churches and other organisations. In 2020 LCM provided 120 presents to 60 children in deprived areas of Leeds City. Charity Shop Re-Store Charity Shop raises funds for LCM work. Free grants of clothing are also made to needy individuals and groups (eg refugees) who are in desperate need. in a typical week the shop is open four days and between 120-150 people will access the shop and acquire necessary clothes and goods at extremely cheap prices. Work experience is provided for those experiencing long term unemployment due to addictions wanting to get back into work. It has an informal role as a listening and counselling centre as visitors and volunteers unburden themselves. There are welcome opportunities to share the hope of the gospel for those who are struggling with life providing encouragement for teh future . Prison Work LCM chaplain is involved in prison chaplaincy work at HMP Leeds (1200 inmates) and Wetherby Young Offenders Institution (330 inmates). Chaplain undertakes cell visitation, personal counselling to prisoners and staff, chapel services. Holiday Projects Working in partnership with local churches, LCM staff are engaged in providing holiday clubs. These will include games, craft trips, singing, bible stories enabling children to learn about Jesus and have fun at the same time. LCM staff are also involved in organising a week long summer camp under canvas for teenagers from poor families and deprived backgrounds. Care Homes Chaplaincy is provided to Nursing Homes in North Leeds. Working with a team of volunteers LCM chaplain organises regular midweek services, personal visitation and prayer for residents. Lighthouse LCM staff worker and other LCM volunteers assist in this city centre project which ministers to homeless, rough sleepers and people at the margins. This includes two weekly sessions (Sunday and Wednesday afternoons) which will cater for 100+ guests.

We are a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation, founded in 2005. We rent a venue in the Wingate Methodist church in Armley, Leeds. Our objective is to improve the well-being of our members including families from different nationalities who speak Russian. However, everybody in the local community is welcome to join us. We organise social, cultural, and educational activities for families with young children on low income, families who feel isolated and are not integrated into society due to different reasons. We are a small group that are run by volunteers; there is no paid workers working for us. The cost of living crisis is affecting all of us. As part of our activities, we run different projects throughout the year that teach our members how to budget on small incomes, how to cook nutritious food with ingredients that are easily available. Sometimes members bring some ingredients from home that they cook and eat together. However, we believe families would benefit a lot if we receive some food donations from some local supermarkets.
