ALDI WAKEFIELD - SNOW HILL WAY

We are a community based kitchen, we have a kitchen outside the Wakefield Cathedral every Wednesday from 6pm. We offer a hot meal, pastries, snacks, sandwiches, as well as clothing toiletries and books to anyone in need with no judgement. We also provide tents and sleeping bags for those that are homeless. Everything is free to anyone who needs it. We began in August 2018 and our first kitchen fed 30 people, and currently we are feeding about a 100 people plus minus a week sometimes whole families. We have some amazing volunteers and we are not just about food, we have plenty of volunteers around all the time for people to chat to about any issues they have and just to lend an ear.

Social Justice is important in all aspects of society. Leeds is rich with a diverse community of multi ethnic and multi faith communities. However, women suffer greatly due to social deprivation and poverty. Women from BAME communities have a double disadvantage due to racism, language & access barriers. We would like to achieve these goals mentioned above because we view food as a tool for social development that can be used to reduce poverty and social inequalities, This project will also encourage women empowerment, tackle loneliness of the elderly, and help children and young people overcome violence, strengthen the SU mental health, discrimination and disadvantage in their lives. The people that will benefit from this project are: • Invisible Victims of Domestic Violence • Migrants, refugees and Asylum seekers • People with learning disabilities and special educational needs We believe this project can make a significant change in the quality of life of these individual. We use Goal 2 from the SDG as an inspiration to tackle acute hunger in deprived communities. This project will meet the immediate food needs of vulnerable women and other vulnerable people. The uniqueness of this project is to provide a discreet and inclusive service for women to engage with confidence and dignity. However, the main purpose of this project is to ensure victims of domestic violence and crisis have immediate access to food to relieve acute hunger. Referral - professional referrals are being taken and self referrals too. Operating via deliveries to the door.

Hi. Our community group was set up back in March 2020 amid the lock down for the vulnerable. From there we set up a food bank & also did shopping for the vulnerable and collected prescriptions etc. We now have referrals from the Wakefield North and have been commended by Wakefield Council for the running of the food bank and the number of local people we have been able to help. We have had radio coverage too which came as a surprise! One of our volunteers was even interviewed on Radio Leeds quite recently. Our social media is covering a vast area and referrals come through Wakefield council for the food bank. The community is also donating. But due the ever increasing demand we still run short of food items. Any donations would be much appreciated and we can move forward in knowing we have the goods for the food bank for the referrals coming through.
