How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, ALDI has donated surplus food and products, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

Rotherham Social Supermarket

Rotherham, UK

Individuals and families who have found themselves in financial difficulty can join the Social Supermarket at Rotherham Minster. They attend each week and can 'shop' from a selection of fresh and store cupboard items as well as a few non food items such as hygiene products and pet food. Members are with us for 3 months and can access holistic support and signposting to help them get back on their feet. Alongside the Social Supermarket we run a number of community groups such as a men's coffee morning, community café, craft group and a make & mend sewing group Donations help keep our 'shop' stocked with a variety of fresh and staple foods. Thanks to support we've received through neighbourly we have been able to support 160 households on average per year. Many of our former members have grown in confidence, found employment or found long lasting solutions to their financial difficulties as a result of accessing our Social Supermarket.

Food AWARE CIC was established in 2008 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. AWARE stands for 'Alternative to Waste And Re-use Enterprise). We currently work with over 50 community-based organisations across South Yorkshire (largely located in Doncaster and Rotherham areas). We collect/receive edible surplus food made available to us via local supermarkets, farms, wholesalers, food discounters, allotments, donations etc and redistribute to those in need via trusted local community partners e.g. churches, foodbanks, soup kitchens, luncheon clubs, youth cafes etc. We also educate on food labelling e.g. 'Best Before' vs 'Use By' dates, Eat Well Plate, Love Food Hate Waste, Change4Life etc. We provide numerous training and volunteering opportunities e.g. drivers, warehouse operatives, administration, foodbank volunteers etc. Our motto is #FeedPeopleNotLandfill!

Clifton Learning Partnership

Rotherham, UK

Advancing education, in the socially/economically disadvantaged community of Rotherham east ward and its environs, to improve the educational attainment/attendance/aspiration of children and engagement/participation in learning of children/carers /parents.to develop the capacity/skills of the members of the community to better identify and meet their needs to participate more fully in society. Our new project will be a Pantry which will involve local people becoming members by paying a weekly membership fee. For this fee they will receive a certain amount of food we will obtain from Fareshare. As well as food we will be able to provide support to encourage and help people out of food poverty. This may include support with debt, budgeting, finding work or training. We will achieve this 'in house' and also by referral to some partner organisations locally. The food we may gain from local providers through neighbourly will not be included in the membership fee allowance of food but will be given away for free as an added extra. By doing this we believe we are doing our bit to conquer food waste whilst also getting the food to those who need it the most.
