ALDI SHEFFIELD - ST MARY'S GATE

The project began in May 2015 and ran a series of successful pop-ups, feeding an average of 201 people per event and utilising 15 volunteers each time to assist in the planning and execution of the events. Fast forward to 2026 and Food Works now recovers over 300 tonnes of surplus food per year to help build a fair and sustainable food system in Sheffield. Through our two community cafes and 17 community partner hubs we are providing access to affordable, sustainable food across the city.

We’re a community led service operating from our home, dedicated to supporting individuals and families in need. Most of the people we help come to us through word of mouth, and we also spend time out in the community delivering essentials to those experiencing homelessness. Our main service is providing food parcels, which we deliver directly to service users once referrals have been made. To help cover basic overhead costs such as fuel, a small fee is required. The project aims to develop and create fantastic, long-term opportunities to build a better future for our children, their families and the Arbourthorne Community. The aim of the project is to address the root causes of hardship by bringing new ideas and solutions into our community. We aim to create a can-do environment where ideas can be developed, supported and taken forward by the school, parents, children and the local community. We are setting up a range of early projects and schemes that will begin to address: • Food poverty • Fuel poverty • Health and nutrition • Enterprise and local action
