Storehouse
Richmond, UK
Storehouse at Influence Church has been running since November 2012 in Richmond, North Yorkshire and since November 2014 in nearby Barnard Castle. We currently feed up to 40 people across the two locations and demand is increasing week by week. We provide a full bag of food (including refrigerated and frozen items) per person and have recently started to stock other items such as toiletries/nappies etc. As well as our weekly food bank outlet, in 2015 we began a Christmas hamper scheme where we delivered food hampers to 15 families in need across the area. These hampers included a Christmas meal, snacks, goodies and gift for each family member. We receive food donations from the general public but this, of course, is not always in equal numbers or of high volume. The time of the year also affects the amount donated to us. Storehouse is generally run by volunteers and is overseen by one staff member on a small wage. This is to ensure budgets are kept and that food supplies are stocked and organised. Storehouse is constantly growing in other directions. Its most recent development to partner alongside the food bank is a CAP (Christians Against Poverty) Job Club, in which anyone can access 1:1 guidance on job searching, applications, CV writing and general skill finding and confidence building. This is also run by volunteers.
