ALDI WHITEHAVEN

We are a community group who help others by passing on items and food to those in need, food and items of clothing and household goods are usually donated by other members of the community. We also have foodbank voucher holders within our group but do not have a foodbank within the town we live in and many in our small town do not drive or have the finances in place to travel to the foodbank. We are an emergency stop gap for food until we can get the community member some further help from outside agencies. We have also begun working in partnership with other groups concerned with food poverty Works 4 You Cleator Moor, Moorclose Community Centre and Priory Drive Swap Shop. Food is now distributed within a 15 mile radius.

We are a small primary school at the heart of the village of Frizington, serving a community with high levels of deprivation and limited transport links. We provide a daily breakfast club to ensure children start the day ready to learn, and a range of after-school clubs, including practical cooking sessions that support life skills and wellbeing. Following the recent refurbishment of the community hall, we are committed to extending our support beyond the school gates. We aim to work closely with local partners to support the wider community through initiatives such as a food bank and a pensioners’ lunch club, helping to reduce isolation and improve access to essential support. As a trusted and central part of village life, our school plays a key role in bringing the community together and responding to local need.

We understand that some children struggle with accessing learning but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the best chance to reach their full potential. Westlakes academy have set up a school within a school called West Lakes Academy Connect. We are aiming to provide a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment that empowers every student to thrive and reach their full potential. We are driven to promote academic achievements and social, emotional progress. We aim to provide a place of emotional safety to connect and strengthen trust with every student in order to build happy, healthy and aspirational young people.
