Provides support to kinship carers and their children living in sunderland and surrounding areas. This is primarily but not always Grandparents who are raising their grandchildren because they cannot live with their birth parents. This can be for a variety of reasons such as abuse, neglect, parental substance misuse, parental mental health issues or the death of parent. There is no statutory responsibility for local authorities to support these families and austerity beauts has meant that any descretional support that a family may have been afforded in the last has since been withdrawn. Many kinship carers struggle financially as a direct result of taking in the responsibility of someone else's child.

We are a NOT FOR PROFIT...COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY.......We intercept and redistribute food destined for landfill to families in the Sunderland / Washington area.. we aim to raise awareness of landfill, encourage families to eat well...spend less...budget for meals.. weve recently opened a waste free community cafe where we now cook with the food we receive and create a daily landfill menu that anyone can access, we do not charge for our landfill menu and we have different options available each day. we have a large garden at our new community cafe and we are keen to establish a community garden where families can aim to become self sufficient with our support, and a kids garden with daily activities including planting, growing and lots of muddy garden adventure time. .

Pennywell Youth Project has operated in the heart of the Pennywell community for over 30 years, working in partnership with local and citywide organisations. We have a purpose built building in heart of the community that is open 7 days a week. We are an established community resource designed to enhance local people’s life chances and opportunities. We work with people who face extreme disadvantage because of their encomic and social position, have many daily complex challenges, being disproportionality at risk. The Charity’s objects (Objects) are in the interests of social welfare to provide for the benefit of the Pennywell and surrounding areas, city-wide and regional to Tyne and Wear (Area of Benefit) a youth project and general community resource the purpose of which is to: - promote therein and in the Area of Benefit and in particular to encourage provision for the benefit of in particular young people but also the wider community so as to relieve poverty, advance education and improve the condition of life for the said inhabitants; and - redress all forms of inequality and to ensure equality of opportunity for the general public and, in particular, young people to fulfil their potential as empowered individuals and members of groups and communities, and to support young people during the transition to adulthood. Pennywell Youth Project: - Deliver services to increase the employability of young people - Encourage young people to become more independent, improve their self-esteem and confidence - Support young people and their families by providing information and programmes that will allow them easy access services and training - Combat anti-social behaviour through learning life-skills, personal development and additional training activities - Offer services to the local community that improve health, well-being and the social and economic position of residents Pennywell Youth Project: · delivers centre based youth activities attracting 130 young people each week and 600 per year (Monday and Wednesday 5- 7.30pm, Friday and Saturday 5-9pm and Sunday 11.30 – 5.30pm) · run two junior groups (Tuesday and Wednesday 3.15 – 4.45pm) 40 young children per week · deliver an employment pathway programme for young people aged 16-25 ( Drop In Monday and Friday 12 – 2.30pm). We work with over 100 young people a year. · manage a contract with Sunderland College to deliver an Employability Course for 16 young people aged 16-19 that spans the full academic year and includes GGSE Maths and English (Tuesday to Thursday 9am – 4pm) · provide both formal and informal learning opportunities to local people and the wider area · are the lead provider delivering the governments and Big Lottery YIF (Youth Investment Programme) programme in west Sunderland until 2020, over 1,500 engaged in programme provide a free community cafe 2 days a week,
