ALDI GATESHEAD - METRO PARK

To give food hampers to families and single people who are having financial hardship or experiencing poverty and give information of any other organisations that can be of support to them. To open homeless drop in to feed, cloth and shelter homeless people and show them compassion. To support women who were victims of dosmetic violence and could not remain in the home and are being sheltered. Our project operate from 94 Blandford street, NE1 3BT. Newcastle. On a daily basis we see Seniors, single mothers, low-income workers, people on social assistance, and immigrants walk into our church food bank for assistance and food support which we have been giving them.. We provide free training and skills acquisitions empowerment seminar that will enable participants who are jobless to get back to work. We don't collect food from any other retailer. We don't involve the press in our activities because it comes at additional cost.

The Newcastle Food Bank provides emergency food parcels for people across the city. We work with members of our community who are struggling to put food on the table for themselves and their families in conjunction with our Pathways and Welfare service to maximise income generation to prevent the need to use the Foodbank. In addition to the emergency food parcels, we operate a pop-up Pantry 3 days per week offering low cost food for members. The Pantry is a safety net for people to prevent the need of falling into Foodbank use whilst also offering a way out of using our Foodbank. Alongside our Foodbank, a team of volunteers run our Foodbank garden where they grow fresh produce to be used in cooked meals or given directly to Foodbank users. The volunteer team host events during School holidays for children to get involved in learning how to grow garden produce. The garden grows a variety of vegetables as well as having a small orchid of fruit trees.

We are a large community centre in the heart of Winlaton. Run by the community for the community. The centre is run by volunteers. We provide emergency food and access to Free food at 2 markets each week. Our charity collect surplus food from local supermarkets (Marks & Spencer, The Co-op and Tesco) which may be past its best before date and which would usually end up as waste, we sort and offer it to our local community. The produce is also used to make healthy and nutritious meals for our lunch clubs and to give out to local people in need. WE also offer a variety of classes and clubs, sport and fitness, parent and toddler groups, lunch clubs for older people and access to professional services. Registered charity 1160323
