St Nicks - The Green Heart of York
York, UK
St Nicks works for the benefit of wildlife and people from our environment centre and nature reserve: an important green space locally. Our inclusive volunteering project bridges the gap between environmental awareness and action, supporting a diverse group of people. St Nicks gives volunteers opportunity develop their skills and come together for common aims: to connect to nature and care for our community. Our Ecotherapy mental health project offers individuals this same opportunity, alongside tailored inspirational groups and mentoring promoting recovery. We work as a charity to run various sustainability themed projects and services, helping create lasting positive change in the actions and attitudes of York residents, enabling them to move towards a sustainable future. All our work is built on four pillars – our four impacts: 1) supporting people to reduce carbon 2) supporting people to reduce waste 3) increasing access to and the use of green space 4) supporting people to improve their health and wellbeing Within these we undertake a broad range of work. We help conserve local habitats across York, run a zero carbon recycling service, improve mental health over over 80 individuals per year through our Ecotherapy programme, hold sustainability events and support over 200 volunteers per year. We could not do the work we do without the generosity of our volunteers, our donors and our funders.
