Scoo-B-Doo

Gloucester, UK

Scoo-B-Doo was established in 1982 by a small group of grateful parents, doctors and nurses. Today, the registered charity is still run entirely by volunteers and supports the Neonatal Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in caring for sick and premature babies from Gloucestershire and beyond. From day one, the charity has been actively fundraising to provide equipment and essential items. Over 80% of the equipment used on the ward every day has been funded by Scoo-B-Doo, helping to ensure the babies are given the best possible care. 100% of every donation goes to help the wards tiny patients and their families. The NHS does it’s part too of course, providing us with a building and paying for all of the dedicated medical staff as well as the life-saving drugs used on the ward. But with the NHS under constant financial pressure, the money Scoo-B-Doo raises is vital in supporting the service and that is critical to the survival of these vulnerable patients.

Maggie's Cheltenham

Cheltenham, UK

Every year 300,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer, facing tough questions, exhausting treatment and difficult emotions that can range from anxiety to loneliness to isolation. These challenges affect not only the person with cancer, but their family and friends too. As the number of people living with cancer continues to rise, so the demand for support increases, putting pressure on limited NHS resources and highlighting the growing need for practical, emotional and social support. Maggie's Cheltenham is here for everyone and anyone affected by cancer in the Three Counties area of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, offering a unique programme of support that has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. Built near the grounds of Cheltenham General Hospital, the Centre is a warm, welcoming place with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need to find their way through cancer. Maggie's Cheltenham is a place to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; places where qualified experts provide emotional support; places to meet other people or simply to sit quietly with a cup of tea. In the words of a Maggie's Centre Visitor: "Maggie's provided me with a refuge - a sanctuary - part of the real world but somehow detached. The world hadn't changed but cancer had totally changed who I was and I needed help to learn how to live again" We're always grateful for the support of our local community. For example, in 2017/18, M&S and Maggie's are working together to raise awareness and funds for the work done by Maggie's to support people living with and affected by cancer in our local community.
