Beatson Cancer Charity

Glasgow, UK

Beatson Cancer Charity exists to enhance the experience, treatment, outcomes and well-being of current and former cancer patients and their families or carers. We achieve this by delivering non-clinical services and funding enhancements in cancer treatment, care and research in partnership with the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. Significant funding provides additional patient and family resources and facilities, innovative service developments and enhanced medical equipment. Our funding provides extra staff resources including clinical nurse specialists and radiography and research staff as well as innovative and ground-breaking research. Our experienced team offers a range of non-clinical services to help relax patients and provide relief from pain, insomnia, nausea, phobia and anxiety. These complementary services are delivered in the wards, departments or in the Beatson Cancer Charity Wellbeing Centre, a unique haven with wonderful views where patients can unwind alone or with fellow patients. Services and facilities include reiki, reflexology, massage, beauty therapies, a hair salon, a cinema and a soft drinks and juice bar. At the heart of Beatson Cancer Charity is our commitment to fighting cancer on all fronts. That's why we support a full range of resources from research and treatment to management and care. By doing so we can make a significant contribution to the battle against cancer - and help improve the lives of patients, former patients and their families. We are also committed to building and supporting The Beatson's reputation as an internationally renowned cancer centre. We believe that by attracting the best staff and developing pioneering techniques and treatments, we will contribute to changing the face of cancer treatment on a local, national and international scale. We are positive, we are full of hope and we are ready to fight cancer.

Erskine - Caring for Veterans since 1916

Bishopton, UK

As long as our Armed Forces are in use there will be a need for Erskine to care. 2021 is a very exciting time at Erskine as we have our Activity Centre re-opening where Veterans can come for the day to learn new skills such as wood working and IT skills; relax with our Holistic Therapist; learn new ways of coping with Combat Stress and PTSD with our Mentors or speak to Benefits Advisors and learn how to keep well with Nutrition Worskshops. (or simply socialise and get involved in Tri-Service dominoes and pool tournaments!) We are in the process of moving younger Veterans into our Erskine Transitional Support Apartments to assist them with the transition from military life to "civvy" life. We will look after them for a period of up to 24 months and help them find the "tools" they need to eventually settle into whatever part of the country they wish to permanently reside. Of course alongside all of these developments we will always care for our Veterans who live in our Homes in Glasgow's West End, Bishopton and Edinburgh. Our dedicated Nursing, Care, Activities and Physiotherapy teams work tirelessly to ensure that our Veterans have the best possible quality of life for as long as possible. They served for us, now it's our turn to serve them.
