Campaign Against Living Miserably, CALM

London, UK

CALM is an innovative mental health and suicide prevention charity dedicated to tackling the tragic rate of suicide across the UK. Every 3 minutes in the UK, someone attempts to take their own life. And, every 90 minutes, someone will die by suicide. CALM exists to change this. And we do this in 2 ways: Our prevention work helps people live happier lives by connecting with others, talking about their problems, and understanding where to seek help. We do this through our online CALM Guides, which offer tons of practical support, building CALM communities where people feel they can open up, and through our groundbreaking and award-winning national campaigns that smash the stigma around suicide. And through our intervention work. Our life-saving helpline is available 365 days a year from 5 pm to midnight via phone, webchat and WhatsApp. The helpline offers people the chance to have a free and confidential conversation with an experienced and paid professional who is trained to listen, help them find hope, a reason to stay, and gain the tools they need to make positive, long-term changes. Critically, our helpline is saving lives every single day.

Alzheimers Society - Maidenhead & Windsor

Maidenhead, UK

We are the UK's leading dementia support and research charity, here for anyone affected by any form of dementia. Information and advice We are the first point of contact for anyone dealing with dementia - whether you are worried about dementia or have it yourself, are a family member or carer, or a health or social care professional, and wherever you live. Through our website, our publications and National Dementia Helpline, we provide comprehensive, reliable and up-to-date information about dementia to help people to understand it and empower people to live well with it. We also have an online support and discussion forum, Talking Point. Care and support We have almost 3,000 community-based services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, providing practical and emotional support for people with dementia and their carers. These include dementia advisers and support workers, dementia cafes, day and home support, befriending, carer support groups and our innovative Singing for the Brain groups. We also help others to improve and develop their dementia care practice through our training and consultancy and publications for health and social care professionals. Research We are dedicated to defeating dementia through pioneering research, and fund an innovative programme of research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia. By 2017, we aim to spend at least £10 million a year on new research projects that will make a real difference to people's lives. One distinctive feature of our ground-breaking research programme is the integral involvement of people with early-stage dementia and carers. As part of our Research Network, volunteers with direct experience of living with dementia inform our research priorities. Campaigning We demand a better future for everyone affected by all forms of dementia. With the help of our members and supporters, we campaign for change that will improve all aspects of care and support. From lobbying to influencing health and social care commissioners to improving public understanding of dementia, we help people to live well in their own homes, residential homes or hospital.
