Emmaus Greenwich - helping tackle homelessness

Emmaus Greenwich is a charity that provides a home and work for ex-homeless men and women (our “companions”), helping them to re-build their lives. To help fund our community and to give our companions meaningful work, we collect and sell second-hand furniture, clothes and other items and sell them in our shops in London. Our goal is to help homeless people regain their self-respect and in due course move back into mainstream society. We also help to protect the environment by reducing unnecessary landfill. We provide companions with a safe and secure environment, counselling as required and help with finding a job and/or home. We also provide skills training, either in-house or through external training providers. A big part of the Emmaus, ethos is "solidarity" - the provision of support to the most needy and disadvantaged in society. Emmaus Greenwich is part of the worldwide Emmaus movement which was founded in France after the second world war by Abbe Pierre. Emmaus is non-denominational and welcomes people of any or no faith.
