North Star Community Trust Outreach Team

London, UK

The Community Outreach Team is based in Edmonton, North London. We reach over 1800 families from 4 schools. Our families’ experience financial hardship this can also impact other areas of their lives including their health. To alleviate some of these pressure on our families we provide support around, health and wellbeing, pathways to employment, supporting your child with their learning as well as volunteering opportunities. 2020 has posed additional pressure and restrictions on our families, making basic living standards difficult to maintain. As a team we have adapted to support those in need by establishing a food and clothing bank, provided reading books and games for children, signposted parents to local soup kitchen and provided cooked meals during the school holidays as well as food drops to those families self-isolating. We believe Equity means that each child receives what they need to develop to their full academic and social potential. The work our team carries out tries to reduce some of the pressure placed on families and bring smiles to faces. We are asking for donation for our families of Food (fresh and dried), toiletries, cleaning products, clothing, baby items, books and games and educational resources such as pencil cases, calculators. We are happy to collect items from within the 5 mile radius of Edmonton.

Supporting Young People Escape Homelessness

Enfield, UK

In our Young People Service, we house and support over 100 young people aged 16- 24 years. We work with a diverse range of people, from all walks of life and with various support needs, ranging from homelessness, mental health, benefits, independent skills etc. We take a holistic approach and ensure we involve our service users in the approaches we take and the work we do. We provide a range of workshops and activities, aiming to engage and educate our residents. We make the most of our donations by utilising them in a way they are easily accessible to our residents, to support with activities as well as aiming to assist those residents suffering from significant hardship. We hope to be able to create an 'in house' food bank, this is due to feedback from our younger residents, where many do not feel comfortable or confident to attend community food banks due to a range of reasons, one being the stigma attached, which we are working to break through. We also create beneficial workshops using the surplus donations supplied, for example, cooking or healthy eating workshops. We are looking for donations of various types, to help support the work we do and ensure our residents get the best start with their journey to independence. With the cost of living soaring, we have seen the impact this has had on our most vulnerable residents and are seeking support to help our residents survive, with the aim to see them all thrive. Some example of how others can help us: - Funds for day trips, weekend trips, activities. - Food donations. - Equipment to help support projects, such as, gardening items or paint to renovate a space. - Shoes & Clothing. - Bedding, Towels, Home Items. - Toiletries. - One off fund/grants to support residents going through serious financial hardship. or to pay for courses etc.
