B&Q Wisbech

Ferry Project is an award-winning registered charity and social enterprise based in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. Since 1999, we have been dedicated to helping those experiencing homelessness and vulnerability across the Fenland area. As the largest provider of homelessness-related services in the district — supporting an estimated 80% of those experiencing homelessness locally — we engage with over 300 clients each year across housing advice, emergency accommodation, hostel living, resettlement, employment support, and health services. We ensure every donation received, whether physical, practical, or financial, directly benefits our clients. What We Do We believe homelessness is rarely just about housing — it is almost always connected to trauma, mental health challenges, relationship breakdown, addiction, or unemployment. That is why we take a holistic, whole-person approach, offering a full continuum of care from the moment someone comes off the streets through to fully independent living. We operate six supported accommodation sites across Fenland, including Octavia View, Destiny Haven, Hope House, Agape House, Faith House, Jubilee Place, and properties in March. Every resident has a dedicated keyworker providing personalised, trauma-informed support. Our Impact (2025–26) 83% of planned move-ons resulted in positive outcomes 26 people helped into a new home or tenancy 12 people supported into independent living 12 people reconnected with their families 12 people gained paid employment 41 people accessed health services 29,906 nights of accommodation delivered 36 people supported through the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol Who We Support Our clients are predominantly single adults with complex, overlapping needs — including mental health challenges, substance misuse, offending histories, and domestic abuse. Many have been let down by multiple systems and need consistent, non-judgmental support to rebuild their lives. Rural Homelessness We champion the often-invisible issue of rural homelessness. In Fenland, services are isolated, transport links limited, and needs are complex. We have spent 25 years building the community trust and expertise needed to reach people here, and we advocate for greater national recognition of rural homelessness. Our Values Our FIRST values — Faith, Integrity, Respect, Support, Trust — underpin everything we do. Using trauma-informed and psychologically informed practice, we walk alongside people towards lasting, positive change. In 2025–26, volunteers contributed 487 hours (valued at over £7,300), many of them former residents — a testament to what is possible with the right support.

Our main aim is to stop hunger and cease the need for foodbanks. However, at this moment in time, we continue to provide an invaluable service to our community. We want to give people in our local community, such as our foodbank clients, the homeless, the jobless and the disadvantaged, a chance to enjoy an act of kindness. We hope to improve self esteem, even for a day, by giving back something into the community. We are always in need of donations in order to help our community improve their daily lives. Basic things such as toiletries, washing up liquid, washing powder, kitchen items, clothes, cupboard items, tea, coffee. We would appreciate donations for the children and pets to help our clients. Many would go hungry in order to ensure their pet doesn’t! Our support will help the community set up a better and more comfortable place to live. DIY items will help. From lighting to living space to paint. Just thinking out the box. We can utilise and make our donations work. Every client has a different story. We have recently been fundraising for our foodbank. We’ve already had two giveaway days, car boot mornings, a bric-à-brac and a cake sale. We are looking forward to our first Christmas Raffle and hope to get some amazing donations. We all want to keep our community safe and happy. We would really appreciate all things garden, toys and home. From plant pots and plants to art and craft materials to home accessories. All these things will really give our clients a great opportunity to make their daily lives better. We would deem it invaluable if we could link up with the surplus donations and the B&Q Reuse Programme. Many of our clients/community need the very basics to set up home. To feel safe. To be respected. Self esteem is low and they are acutely embarrassed to have to visit the foodbank. But with careful handling, understanding and kindness, we greet our clients with a warm and welcoming environment where every single volunteer really cares! We all hope we can make a difference. We can do this by working with local businesses as well as Neighbourly and the B&Q Programme. No man is an island. We need to join forces to stop hunger. We hope we can do this together.

We are a group of community volunteers who create, plant and maintain flowerbeds all over Wisbech Cambridgeshire. We welcome all donations of plants and materials to help us create new project gardens. Our aim is to make Wisbech a nicer place for the community and nature alkke.
