Denise’s Army is based in the Heol Kenyon area of Johnstown, with its primary base at Johnstown Community Centre, which holds a 5-star hygiene rating. This facility is used, at times, to support foodshare opportunities for the local community. The foodshare initiative, launched in 2026, aims to provide fresh food parcels using edible surplus food donated by supermarkets and food establishments. The service is available free to individuals in the area experiencing food insecurity, enabling access to nutritious food while reducing unnecessary food waste sent to landfill. Denise’s Army foodshare operates an inclusive model. Referrals are currently received via local police officers, PCSOs, community agents, council representatives, and word of mouth. Self-referrals are also accepted. Neighbourly is a platform to hopefully develop this and provide vital links to food surplus, volunteering and grants. At present, donations are supplied by Co-operative Food store in Rhosllanerchrugog. Food is collected by volunteers and delivered directly to individuals’ addresses. Any surplus food nearing its best-before date is retained until the following day, when it is made available for collection at the community centre. Respecting individual privacy is a key priority, and as such, there is currently limited emphasis on media promotion. However, plans are in place to develop a website, and one of this year’s objectives is to increase local awareness of the foodshare project using anonymised data, clear communication, and secure, layered messaging. There are currently volunteering opportunities available, particularly to support behind the scenes with website development and ongoing monitoring of demand and uptake as the foodshare initiative expands. Johnstown is a village in Wrexham, Wales, and forms part of the historic coal mining community of Rhosllannerchrugog. Wrexham has a high percentage of lone-parent households, ranking seventh highest in Wales. Over 50% of Lower Layer Super Output Areas in Wrexham are within the top 20% most deprived in Wales in terms of community safety. As of 2022–23, 23.7% of children under 16 in the Wrexham area were living in low-income families. Subject to funding, the foodshare aims to expand to include the bulk purchase of household products, which could be offered at low cost to provide greater choice in an area with significant levels of deprivation. This initiative has already proved invaluable to residents affected by disability, age, family circumstances or factors beyond their control.

We are a group of local volunteers who work to rescue 'date up' food from supermarkets, and get this food out into the community where it will be used, rather than go to landfill. We organise food boxes for people on request (either via messaging this page, or sometimes they will be referred by other people who are aware of what we do). We have built up a list of over 100 people now, and we take them in turn for a box. Photos of boxes ready to go out, or awaiting chilled food are shown in our media gallery. We also advertise boxes on our Facebook page when we have excess food available. We also help local charities and community groups by supplying excess food to them, thus helping them keep their costs down, and keep food waste to an absolute minimum. Also, this helps get food to people who are not on Facebook, especially the elderly.

Dynamic is a Centre for children and young people with disabilities in Wrexham, North Wales. We currently provide a range of services for children, young people (aged 8 – 25) and their families, who live within the County of Wrexham. We have been in operation for over 25 years and the young people who access our services may have physical or learning disabilites, sensory impairments, additional learning needs or life limiting illnesses. We currently provide: Dynamic Groups Fortnightly social groups which provide a range of activities and opportunities for the children or young person, whilst also providing a short break for the parents/carers. Dynamic Friends Twice weekly social groups for young adults who are not in education or employment and need an opportunity during the day to socialise and put their life skills into practise. Dynamic Signing Sensations A BSL Signing Choir who practise twice a week and perform in the local community at events. Dynamic Voice A participation group for young people who wish to have their views on issues that matter to them, both locally and nationally. Dynamically Empowered A time-limited advocacy service providing 1:1 support, empowering the young person to have their voice to be heard on issues that are specific to them. Dynamic Transition Service A time-limited transition service providing 1:1 support on key areas they need to develop their skills, such as transport training, preparing for a change in educaiton and building their self-confidence, independence and resilience. Whilst we do receive some funding to provide some of these services, we still need to find more than £200k per year to deliver all that we do. We rely heavily on the generosity of others to be able to keep our doors open and support so many young people and families. We currently have over 120 young people accessing our services and have over 100 on various waiting lists, of which our longest is currently 4 years. We do the best we can with the money we have, but support from the local community is crucial.
