Crest
Llandudno Junction, UK
Crest is a registered charity based in the Conwy Of County, North Wales. Established as a social enterprise in 1998. We have two shops that sell pre-loved furniture, clothing and refurbished electricals, and provide supportive volunteering, training and employment opportunities for socially and economically excluded members of our community. Specifically, we have earned a reputation for providing ‘open door’ opportunities for the hardest to reach; the support we provide is person centred to ensure that all participants in the ongoing Crest story have the very best opportunity to develop personally, socially and economically. The surplus food that Crest collects via the Neighbourly Surplus schemes supports local homeless shelters, young adults in sheltered accommodation and provides food parcels for vulnerable members of the community. We work with strategic partners to develop and deliver centralised (Active Inclusion) and bespoke (AME – Assisted, Mentored Employment) employability programmes and support, though not exclusively, learning disability adults, forces veterans, offenders and those with work limiting conditions; in addition, we currently support and develop over 50 active volunteers and provide work experience opportunities for local students, including those visiting on foreign exchanges. Crest is a non grant reliant organisation; our income is generated through the delivery of contracts, service level agreements and public facing services. All of our enterprises and activities are re-use and recycling based; our main focus being the refurbishment of domestic appliances for both retail and wholesale, textiles recycling and furniture/household goods reuse. Working with our numerous partners, we contribute positively to tackling the poverty agenda; we provide access to low cost quality refurbished domestic appliances (each with a sector leading ‘no quibble’ 12 month warranty) through our local retail stores in addition to being recognised as a leader in the wholesale of refurbished stock to similar organisations across the UK reuse social sector. Furthermore, we provide affordable appliance/furniture/household goods packages for social housing tenants/landlords and emergency accommodation projects; additional value is provided by our partnership with Cambrian Credit Union, enabling access to affordable credit for larger appliances and furniture items. Crest employs 31 core staff (10% of whom were initially engaged as volunteers or beneficiaries) and supports in excess of 150 people per annum through its work. “Unlocking people’s potential through inclusion, innovation and enterprise, for the benefit of the community.” Find us at Ferry Farm Road, Llandudno Junction and Douglas Road, Colwyn Bay.
