B&Q Queens Road

The project began in May 2015 and ran a series of successful pop-ups, feeding an average of 201 people per event and utilising 15 volunteers each time to assist in the planning and execution of the events. Fast forward to 2026 and Food Works now recovers over 300 tonnes of surplus food per year to help build a fair and sustainable food system in Sheffield. Through our two community cafes and 17 community partner hubs we are providing access to affordable, sustainable food across the city.

We would like to offer our students an opportunity to attend a cooking club, so they are able to confidently prepare and cook meals on a budget with limited ingredients. So they can in turn, cook for their families. We would also love to provide a food bank/ community pantry for our children and their families.

The project aims to develop and create fantastic, long-term opportunities to build a better future for our children, their families and the Arbourthorne Community. The aim of the project is to address the root causes of hardship by bringing new ideas and solutions into our community. We aim to create a can-do environment where ideas can be developed, supported and taken forward by the school, parents, children and the local community. We are setting up a range of early projects and schemes that will begin to address: • Food poverty • Fuel poverty • Health and nutrition • Enterprise and local action
