Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Leeds Central SDA Church, has a Foodbank Soup and More Foodbank & Community Kitchen. The area of Little London and Woodhouse where the church and Foodbank is located is a multi cultural area, made up of families and a large population of international students. No referrals are necessary everyone in need is welcome to attend. Food parcels are free. Food donations from Marks and Spencer are used to provide food parcels and prepare soup and hot meals for the community to eat in or takeaway. The opening times for Soup and More each week are as follows: Wednesday 3-5pm Saturday 1-2pm for Emergency Food Parcels and a hot meal is also available on request. The Foodbank also supports a number of community groups and hostels in our area to ensure that no food is wasted Our team of volunteers have Level 2 Food Hygiene certificates and support the work of the Foodbank , providing a range of additional services, and referrals to other mainstream providers.

Surplus To Purpose (SToP) is an environmental enterprise which specialise in the interception of surplus food destined for waste. This produce may be past Best Before, suffered accidental damage or surplus to requirements. Trained personnel record, process and quality control all intercepted food, to ensure it is safe for consumption. This food is then redistributed through various activities such as; boxes for families, outside catering & events, Pay As You Feel cafes and into schools. SToP intercepts approximately 1,000 tons per year at its headquarters in Leeds - the equivalent of 2.3 million meals per year. A majority of the produce we intercept is perishable items such as fruit & vegetables, and bakery goods. However, we also intercept frozen meat & fish, chilled dairy items and non perishable items such as dry goods, drinks and confectionary. In 2022 SToP aims to become the U.K.s largest caterer of events using intercepted produce. From weddings, to conferences, birthdays and work lunches, we wish to provide environmental alternatives to mainstream providers of contract catering. Our mission is to Feed Bellies Not Bins, whilst educating people on the inhumane amounts of edible food wasted every year in the U.K. All of our spaces are inclusive, and all the food we intercept is available to all. We are a local group of volunteers providing the people of North Leeds with all sorts of groups, events or basically whatever they need to help them with life. We require volunteers, helpers, any items that can assist us do what we do. As a charity we run numerous groups for the local community including a stay and play session, fitness classes to name a few. We also do community projects and hold events throughout the year. The surplus will be used at the groups and also as part of the food exchange programme where members of the community use the food and create meals and then pass on their excess to other residents.....it is a unique idea but we find it is well recieved.
