To do our bit in helping to redistribute surplus supermarket food that would otherwise go to waste. Our main aim is to support ethnic minorities especially students who are here to study. From observation and personal experience most international students have sold most if not all they have to fund their education here. Some of them still send support to their families back home and with the state of the economy, its taking its toll. Setting up this will at least reduce the burden of spending too much money on food thereby channelling that to other aspects where its needed. There are organisations who already do this, however I've observed that there is still a lot that goes to waste everyday and the bureaucratic system the supermarket have doesn't do anything to reduce this waste

Allan’s Nursery is situated in the historic heart of the city at the ‘Top of the Town’, and is situated near Stirling Castle surrounded by local history; John Cowan’s hospital, Old Town Jail and Smith Art Gallery. The nursery is open from 8.00 am – 6.00 pm, and presently the nursery operates 48.2 weeks per year. We deliver a service that meets the needs of all children and families but we also recognise that some families may require more support than others. We strive to tackle the poverty related attainment gap within our community ensuring we are doing everything we can to support our families.

We are currently in the process of creating an outdoor classroom for our young people at Braes High School. Last year, the school purchased a Polycrub to provide equitable access to fresh healthy food to our Braes community. Working with our young people and families to up skill them in planting, growing, harvesting and cooking ingredients to make healthy meals on a budget in school, then replicated at home, without cost. We still have a long way to go to create our outdoor classroom. We are looking to make this an accessible area for all and have a couple of barriers to overcome. Our outdoor area is on a hill, meaning it is not wheelchair accessible. We also have no outdoor furniture or resources to enable learning to take place outdoors. Therefore, we are seeking resources such as furniture/wood/planters/outdoor decorations. Outcomes of our Polycrub Project: •Targeted families and pupils becoming advocates to develop understanding and raise awareness across the school community of plough to plate healthy eating. •Good Food Ambassadors Programme development. Expanding the programme to pupils, parent/carers and community to develop their understanding about food education and can apply their knowledge and skills in a progressive way. •Spreading the message of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle in food waste amongst out community. Purchasing a compost bin would help towards this. •An outdoor learning space; being in nature outdoors (outdoor learning) has an evidence base to improve mental health/wellbeing. •Naturally occurring links to curriculum areas as pupils and families apply their learning in the Polycrub. •Pupils and their families develop a greater sense of belonging to Braes High School through ownership of the Polycrub. •The Polycrub has the potential for pupils and parents/carers to meet NHS’ five ways to mental wellbeing: being active, keep learning, connect, take notice and give. •Joining up with our ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ team and learning about reducing food waste, getting the most out of our produce and recycling soils. Give’ will play an important part in this project: The Polycrub project will provide some of the fruit and vegetables for the school breakfast club which runs twice a week from 08:00 - 08:40 As well as providing ingredients for the breakfast club, a longer term aim for the Polycrub Project is to increase community involvement with the intention to provide bags of vegetables and fruit to the community encouraging the parents/carers and pupils to be our advocates for wider community engagement once the project is well established. We also have a Braes Pantry where members of our Braes community can collect food and groceries, free of cost, in times of need. We would be most grateful for any donations for our Braes Pantry.
