BYHP (TACKLING THE ROOT CAUSES OF YOUTH HOMELESSNESS)
Banbury, UK
BYHP (Tackling The Root Causes of Youth Homelessness) supports young people aged 13–25 across Cherwell and surrounding areas / North Oxfordshire. We work with young people facing challenges around wellbeing, family relationships, emotional health, education, employment, independence, and stability — helping to address issues early before they escalate into crisis or homelessness. We generally work within around a 15-mile radius of our office. Our services focus on prevention and early intervention, and include counselling, family mediation, wellbeing support, employability guidance, foodbank, housing advice, and NEET support incorporating mentoring and life skills development. We work alongside schools, local authorities, health services, and community partners to provide joined-up support that helps young people build resilience, confidence, stability, and positive futures. Although our work is centred on prevention, we also provide practical last-resort support for young people who suddenly find themselves homeless or without safe accommodation, including emergency provision such as tents and sleeping bags whilst longer-term support and housing options are explored. Additional support is always welcomed, particularly: • Surplus food and toiletries for young people facing hardship • Corporate volunteering and partnership opportunities • Fundraising and awareness support within the local community • Volunteering opportunities within our NEET provision Whilst we do not accept clothing or furniture donations directly, we often recommend the British Heart Foundation, who support young people moving into accommodation with furniture and household items. Our aim is to tackle the root causes of youth homelessness by supporting young people early, building resilience, and helping them access the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
