Let me tell you a little bit about ourselves……. We are building a brand new cancer hospital in Liverpool – the city’s first – and whilst most of the funding has been secured via traditional sources, we are raising a £15m net charitable contribution to the £162m cost of this much needed facility. This additional money will go towards ‘transforming cancer care’ – for example flat screen tv’s, Playstations and a social area for our Teenage and Young Adult patients, so they can do their best to be…. Well – teenagers! For our lovely chemotherapy patients who are with us sometimes for 6-8 hours for their necessary treatment – we’ll buy much more comfortable chairs for them and their family supporters, and for the parents who don’t want to leave their children – we’ll fit each room out with a sofa bed, rather than a reclining chair. Alarmingly 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime and more astonishingly – Liverpool has the highest cancer rates in the whole of the UK!  Our hospital is going to be a once in a generation build for all involved and all those who have to come to us for treatment. We want to transform cancer care for this, and future generations.
