10 Years of Courage, Hope & Inspiration - Help Us Build the Next 10
Accrington, UK
In 2016, a small group of passionate parents came together with one vision: to ensure no family facing congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI) would ever feel alone. Ten years on, The Children’s Hyperinsulinism Charity has grown into a thriving community across the UK and Ireland, supporting hundreds of families, driving research, and amplifying the voices of children and young adults living with this rare condition. From the very beginning, our mission has been clear: Support families through diagnosis, school years, and transition to adult services. Raise awareness of hypoglycaemia in babies and children to improve early detection. Advocate for better treatments and outcomes, including access to continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). Lead patient‑driven research in collaboration with NHS specialists and academic partners. Over the past decade, we’ve built a strong HI community through family fun days, conferences, wellbeing resources, and our HypoHugs podcast. We’ve co‑created tailored resources with children and young adults, ensuring their voices guide our work. We’ve campaigned in Parliament, contributed to national guidelines, and partnered with leading hospitals to push for better care. A highlight of our journey has been the launch of Hyperinsulinism Awareness Day on 7th June. Each year, families, clinicians, charities, and policymakers come together to shine a spotlight on CHI. From features in national media to shout‑outs on comedy tours, Awareness Day has become a powerful platform to promote early diagnosis, strengthen understanding among healthcare professionals, and celebrate the resilience of HI families. As we mark our 10‑year anniversary, we are proud of what we’ve achieved — but we know there is more to do. Children with CHI still face challenges in school, healthcare, and daily life. Our next decade will focus on: Expanding resources for newly diagnosed families, schools, and young adults. Continuing patient‑led research into neurodevelopmental outcomes and newborn screening. Advocating for universal CGM access and compassionate care. Improving our support across the UK and Ireland Our motto: Courage, Hope, Inspiration - perfectly reflects the CHI superheroes we support. Every child deserves the chance to thrive, and every family deserves the reassurance of a community that understands. We need your help to make the next 10 years even stronger. Whether through financial support, volunteering your time, or simply sharing our message, you can make a real difference. Together, we can ensure no child is left behind and that the HI community continues to grow in strength, voice, and impact. Learn more and get involved: hyperinsulinism.co.uk
