'On The Edge' Live Lunch
Birmingham, UK
We support children and young people by providing music making opportunities in areas where music education provision is under-served (either at school, at home or in the community). By programming regular music events at Starbucks Five Ways we are showcasing new and emerging talent in a casual environment and increasing local audience participation in active listening to live music. In some cases providing Live Lunch allows 'On The Edge' to give young musicians their first taste of performing to new audiences, as well as engaging with the public interactively through hands-on music workshops. 'On The Edge' want to promote music making and the benefits of music as more than simply entertainment by delivering live music events that inspire sociability, new audiences and help more young people to start learning and making music. We bring a range of musical instruments to workshops, and at performance events we promote the charity with banners, flyers and volunteers who are available to answer questions about how to get involved with what we do. We also encourage an 'open mic' accessibility, allowing new young people to have a jam with musicians they've never played with. 'On The Edge' has a recruitment policy for volunteers, apprentices and interns and will embed several arts management roles connected to this project into the responsibilities of volunteers and interns. We also encourage children and young people to count their workshop hours as part of their Children's University accreditation. We expect to build a lasting relationship with Starbucks Five Ways as a supporting venue that supports local young people's music learning and potential careers.
