The Polly Parrot Childrens Services Appeal
Basildon, UK
The Polly parrot Appeal is raising funds for the children's wards and departments at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital including the Neonatal intensive care unit and children's oncology. The hospital sees over 28.500 younger patients each year across a wide reaching area. We are also a receiving hospital for great Ormond Street which means that younger people can continue their treatment local to their homes. We use the funds to make the environment right for thousands of young people being seen at the hospital whether this is as an outpatient or inpatient. The money raised from the appeal is spent on decoration , distraction equipment, sensory toys and lights, child friendly furniture,TVs and electronic gadgets. A big hit with children is the interactive light system which is a projector which displays images on the floor. We are also very fortunate to have a 3 bedroom house on the hospital site where parents are able to go and shower, eat a meal or have a sleep all while being just a couple of seconds from their children on the ward. Each room has en-suite facilities and 2 single beds. The house costs the charity £15,000 a year to be able to keep open.
