Butterfly Boxes - Creating Memories When A Baby Dies

Taunton, UK

Thousands of families are left devastated when their baby dies. They have spent months hoping, dreaming and preparing for their new lives together and in an instant those dreams were dashed. Towards Tomorrow Together provide Butterfly Boxes containing items to bring comfort and enable parents to create treasured memories with their baby. These moments will be remembered for a lifetime. Winning £1000 means that we can supply 28 families with a Butterfly Box which contains -A blanket -2 teddies -A bracelet set containing 2 baby bracelets, a matching one for mum and a keyring for her partner -A kit to take hand and footprints in plaster and paper -Essential oils to create a scent memory and promote peace -A candle -A keepsake card -A memorial card -2 books The idea for The Butterfly Boxes was formed following the sad death of my son Finley during labour at full term. We were able to spend 3 days in hospital with him, in a special bereavement suite. Though the hospital had no memory making activities at that time, we were able to spend time creating our own memories. We gave Finley the gift of a teddy bear, as I noticed after 2 days that no one had brought him one, he was wrapped in the cosiest, fluffiest blanket I could find as he felt so cold. I gave Finley a crystal bracelet that matched mine, and I kept a lock of his hair. We captured his footprints in a clay casting kit and bathed him in essential oils. I can never describe adequately just how difficult it was to walk out of hospital without my son, but the videos, photographs and clothes that he wore, as well as the keepsakes we created have become some of my most treasured possessions. I am proud that we can bring this comfort to other families (approximately 290 per year) Please support us by sharing as much as you can.

Fund a Horse for 3 months

Interacting with horses can quite literally change lives! Conquest Centre, based at Norton Fitzwarren, provides horse-based activities for people with physical and learning disabilities (including emotional and behavioural challenges) and through this benefits their health and well-being. We deliver these activities in an inclusive equine environment which welcomes our whole community. Our work focuses on ability rather than disability and aims to allow each individual to achieve their personal goals. Conquest began its journey in 1965. Today we cater for 180 disabled children and adults each week, as well as families/carers, students, volunteers, public riders and local clubs and associations. Our total annual footfall is around 30,000. As well as individuals who access Conquest directly, our services are used by Community Payback, local authority care homes, special schools/SEN departments, Somerset County Council’s Short Breaks programme, and local disability support groups. WHAT WE DO Conquest Centre is a fully equipped equine centre with: 12 horses; an indoor and outdoor arena with floodlighting, show jumps and a variety of learning tools; a woodland riding trail; specialised equipment such as a hoist and wheelchair accessible mounting block; disabled driving carriages; a wheelchair accessible toilet/wetroom; a warm room with play area and café facilities.
