Make Lunch
Luton, UK
MakeLunch is a national charity working through a network of volunteer groups to provide meals during school holidays for children and families who rely on Free School Meals during term time. In the UK, 3.7 million children are living in poverty - that’s 1/4 children living in families surviving on £13 per day or less (Barnardos Child Poverty Fact Sheet). In 2015, 15% of all pupils in schools across the UK were known to be eligible for and claiming Free School Meals. This is a necessary provision for these families. Some children report that their school dinner is often the only meal they get in a day. When schools close for the holidays, so do their kitchens. MakeLunch exists to fill this gap, something we call the Holiday Hunger Gap.
